That Fish stinks from the head

One of my favorite expressions I have been sharing this expression for years. Not sure where I picked it up. Maybe from Tim Sanders years ago... explains a lot of problems facing America and the world today. GM? That fish... Congress? That fish...

Regret TwinCam 88 style

Four years later I still regret letting this hand built baby get away... This is the motorcycle that I dreamed about for years. Then I made it happen (read some of the background in Purple Curve Effect). Then I rode it. Then I had to release it into the wild. VIN: 1R9SC25516B390616 Where O where are you now? Did I mention that it has the Black & Chrome HD TwinCam 88" engine? Chrome Weld Racing Blade wheels? Extra fat front tire? Gel seat? I could go on (if it were not for the tears clouding my vision)... -ski

Which Victory Motorcycle

Hour by Hour Hour by Hour Test riding the Victory Motorcycles Which hour makes the most sense for a test ride today? The boys & girls at State 8 Motorcycles (Medina Store only) are featuring test rides on the complete Victory Motorcycle line (produced by Polaris Industries). Victory Motorcycles The bigger question: if you could only own three motorcycles (given the economic uncertainty), which three? For me, the vRod for sure. For time on the road with the wife, the Kawasaki Nomad for sure. That only leaves me one "open to buy" as they say... (don't mention this to my wife) Should it be the 8 Ball King Pin? Or maybe the Buell XB12sg? Or the BMW K1300S? Which bike is on your short list? This should be a great year for the test ride. Let summer begin! -ski

Zen Mountain Climbing

First there is a mountain, Then there is no mountain, Then there is. —Zen proverb Or, as Geoffrey Moore suggests, "First there is a market..." I consider his definition of marketing most enlightening. Consider the fourth component, with potential customers:
"who reference each other when making a buying decision"
Which he goes on to say, "is absolutely key to successful high-tech marketing." I wish I had a nickel for every time I overlooked this simple component in my efforts. It would add up nicely... much more so than the results achieved without it! Jeff 'SKI' Kinsey (c)Copyright 2009, Jeff 'SKI' Kinsey. All rights reserved.

Crossing in Dover, Ohio

Dover, Ohio Exit #83 of I-77 :: Dover, OH During my coffee break this morning, I snapped this photo. It was approximately 7:15AM and mostly cloudy. The weather for the long holiday break was very pleasant. Spent some quality time with my vRod. {grin} The vantage point is from the McD's parking lot, facing south by southwest toward the northbound exit. There is a book that has changed my vantage point significantly over the last few weeks. Crossing the Chasm by Geoffrey A. Moore. Crossing the Chasm by Geoffrey A. Moore I bought it in April of 1999. Yes, an oldie (but most definitely a goodie!). Why has it suddenly changed my outlook? Great question. No short answer; as much as I would love to have one at the ready. But in an attempt to contain the answer as much as possible, let me state three key elements. First, I was looking for answers. A great position to find one's self. Consider the alternatives! Second, I have been rereading and studying at great length Jon Spoelstra's book, Marketing Outrageously. Third, I have recently been interacting with a team of passionate (driven, and focused) experts in matters relating to business leadership. You know, Tip #5: Involve Others. Jeff 'SKI' Kinsey P.S. If you own my book, Purple Curve Effect, please be sure to post your thoughts on Amazon dot com. Good or bad. Thanks. (c)Copyright 2009, Jeff 'SKI' Kinsey. All rights reserved.

SKI on Results: Involve Others

Need more cowbell? Involve Others! Not sure how? Get my book: Purple Curve Effect Did I mention the subtitle: SKI's Throughput on Command If you believe that you alone must "invent it here" so to speak in order to be successful, two thoughts rush to mind: you are incredibly smart. Or stupid. When I get an idea, I run it up the flag pole (again, specific details for creating results in my book; the PDF is still free at the moment, item number PCE-112) and see if any of my friends salute it. As I have mentioned before, it pays to have smart friends. {grin} Jeff 'SKI' Kinsey, Jonah P.S. Please be sure to post your thoughts on PCE on Amazon dot com. Good or bad. Thanks. P.P.S. And do let me know how your application of my material goes... I am always looking to mentor the business owner that believes in their calling to make a difference in the world. Graduation Commencement Speaker

Need a positive message for a challenging time? Don't have iTunes? Shame on you! Listen to the graduation.mp3 ski@throughput.us

Another Day another Grad

Time to wake up America. "Shake off the Ides of March and get moving!" Two years ago I was watching the river wind its way out to the ocean in this great post and mentioned that it was high time we got back to work. With May, my thoughts turn to the 1.5 million new grads about to enter the workforce. Plus, an email that I sent earlier today talking about Waitley's "Timing is Everything" got me thinking. Again. Still Need a speaker for your commencement? Consider me. But only if you want a message of hope. One of encouragement. One that says, "Hey, its time to get moving!" A message that says that everyone that wants a job will find one. A message of tough love. Is there any other kind? Jeff 'SKI' Kinsey P.S. If you have not read my "Purple Curve Effect" yet, the PDF is available (item number PCE-112) and priced perfectly for the new grad. Did I mention it was free? Paperback versions on Amazon while supplies last. (c)Copyright 2009, Jeff 'SKI' Kinsey. All rights reserved.

May Day or Cinco de Mayo

Next thing I knew... May Day and the Kentucky Derby were past tense events. Still time to gather my thoughts for Cinco de Mayo. American's are most amazing. Say the word "party" and we do! Like Saint Patrick's Day. Few of us are Irish and yet... so, what are you plans for May 5th? -ski
